This is the story of an unusual family. Arnold, his wife Jeanette, their daughter Paula and her son Felix Stewart.
Arnold’s relationship with Germany begins as early as 1936. To protect his Jewish friends, he fights Bur Nazis on the streets of Johannesburg. Racism spreads through the country. After meeting Nelson Mandela, young Arnold decides to dedicate his “white life” to the black cause.
Many years later in the GDR, Paula will bring a boy into the world. Felix who is coloured as well.
Always an outsider, he has never known anything but the struggle. The relationship to his mother is volatile. Paula does not feel home in the GDR. And “love” is something that has always been a difficult subject in this family.
